Monitoring Process
We believe that monitoring academic progress and examination performance is key to the success of our students. The senior management team meet weekly with personal tutors to assess the performance of every student and to look at intervention strategies where required.
The base of our monitoring is the Examination Practice Periods (EPPs) which students sit in each subject on a fortnightly basis. These are examinations set using past examination material and are designed to give students a real feel of the demands of the examination structure. This regular system of testing means that students have a real familiarity with the structure and pressures of the real exams and are as fully prepared as possible for the ‘real thing’. Students also sit full mock examinations at Easter and this provides a final focus for the June examination session.
The college believes that regular and immediate feedback is the best way to deal with any academic problems which may develop during a student’s academic career. As such regular reports are sent to parents each term, but it is not uncommon for feedback to be far more regular where this is desirable. Absences and lateness are dealt with by the use of an SMS system to notify parents immediately where problems exist. The Principal is always available to meet with parents and carry out academic reviews on a regular basis and we also hold regular parents evenings to allow parents to meet with all tutors and discuss progress.
We will as a college:
- Provide regular feedback to parents and students via reports and parents evenings
- Monitor academic progress through regular EPPs and mock examinations
- Always be understanding where problems have an impact on your performance
- Be available to listen and advise on any academic problems you may have
- Monitor progress through EPP’s and homework and provide regular guidance on areas for improvement and development
- Ensure parents are aware of any absences or academic problems in a prompt fashion
