Students study two compulsory subjects (Academic English & Study Skills) and either Issues in Contemporary Britain or Science in Society, depending on whether they are following the Foundation Year for Social Sciences, Humanities and Business or for Science and Engineering. In addition, students study two optional subjects selected from the lists below:
| Social Sciences, Humanities & Business |
Science and Engineering |
Accounting
Business Studies
Economics
Psychology
Law |
Biology
Chemistry
Mathematics
Mathematics (Advanced)
Physics
|
Depending upon a student’s intended choice of degree subject at university, they will be counselled accordingly in selecting the most appropriate optional subjects. The academic content of optional units will be approximately equivalent in standard and content to the A2 year of UK A-levels, and it is therefore beneficial to students if they have studied their two optional subjects previously in high school. This is essential for those students following the Science and Engineering programme and desirable, although not essential, for those students following the Social Sciences, Humanities and Business programme.
